The Warming Shelter

At the Warming Shelter, a team of Sioux City’s most devoted citizens identified the need for a place to provide the homeless the most basic human necessities of life. With this, their success in these first steps requires dedication, time, and resources.

Opened in 2013, The Warming Shelter located at 916 Nebraska Street in Sioux City, Iowa was built with a simple mission: keeping the homeless in Sioux City area from freezing to death due to the harsh winters of Iowa. Over the last 5 years, we have provided hundreds of men and women with shelter, warmth, and hope in the frigid weather with no governmental financial support.

Our long term goal is to create an environment where the homeless of Siouxland can find hope and a warm place to recover and rebuild. You can become an integral part of that vision with your donation to the Warming Shelter.

What makes the Warming Shelter different from any other location that supports the homeless is that we welcome any and all who are in need of shelter. Once an individual steps into the Warming Shelter, we want to ensure we can deliver the support necessary to help these individuals get their lives on track. We will do this by providing shelter, food, and hope. We provide stability, and finally help them on a path to reintegrate into the community and become a contributor to the region. We provide compassion, help and direction to those who need it most.

Since its inception, the Warming Shelter has provided 51,000 nights and 11,000 days of shelter for those in need. Working hand in hand with local charitable organizations, the warming shelter hopes to be part of a coalition to create comprehensive programs to connect homeless individuals with desperately needed aid and the direction necessary to create a productive path towards independent living.
