What We Do

The Senior Companion Program has a network of volunteers, aged 55 and older to assist home-based individuals or individuals in assisted living facilities. The Senior Companion volunteers provide weekly scheduled visits, companionship, transportation, and respite services at no cost to those in need to help them maintain independent living. Volunteers assist mostly individuals who are elderly, disabled, and mentally ill in Sioux, Lyon, OBrien, Osceola, Plymouth, Woodbury, Monona counties in Iowa and Union county in South Dakota as well as Dakota county in Nebraska. The Foster Grandparent Program provides opportunities for senior volunteers to give back to their communities by helping at-risk children in daycares, schools, or Head Start. The Foster Grandparent Program of Greater Siouxland works in Plymouth, Sioux, O'Brien, Lyon, Osceola, and Woodbury counties. Foster Grandparents give children needed academic, social, and emotional support with one-to-one attention. Support at the daycare and preschool levels prepares children for success in elementary school and assists in preventing future at-risk behaviors. Creating an intergenerational connection that benefits the volunteers and the children they serve.
