Who We Are
The Sioux City Public Museum has been collecting, preserving and interpreting regional history for more than 100 years. Founded to assist in expanding the educational activities of the Museum, today the Sioux City Public Museum provides a wide-range of educational programs and exhibits to the community and welcome thousands of visitors each year, in addition to operating three public facilities.
What We Do
In addition to a variety of educational programs for adults, youth, school groups, and more, as well as maintaining historical collections and artifacts, the Museum operates three public facilities:
SIOUX CITY PUBLIC MUSEUM
Located in the heart of downtown Sioux City, the Sioux City Public Museum features large, colorful exhibits, interactive displays, and much more. Admission is free.
Visitors will discover the “Spirit of Sioux City” through a lively 12-minute orientation film in the ornate “corn palace theatre.” A variety of hands-on experiences are available including the award-winning “Innovation I-Wall” and “The Big Dig,” which replicates an active fossil dig site.
SERGEANT FLOYD RIVER MUSEUM AND WELCOME CENTER
The Sergeant Floyd River Museum and Welcome Center serves the tri-state areas of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota as an information center. Uniquely it also serves as a historical museum as both functions are housed aboard the dry-docked motor vessel, the M.V. Sergeant Floyd. Admission is free.
PEIRCE MANSION
John Peirce's elegant home located at 2901 Jackson Street has been a part of Sioux City's history for over 120 years! Completed in 1893, the Victorian-era home is constructed with South Dakota quartzite making it a unique example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. Today, the Peirce Mansion is open to the public for quarterly open house events and is available to rent
