VOLUNTEERING FOR DISASTER RESPONSE
Volunteers are perhaps never more important than during a disaster - helping prepare, comfort, and recover. They are often a critical part of putting communities back together following any type of disaster.
VolunteerSiouxland’s new Disaster Response feature allows volunteers interested in being a part of disaster response to sign up at any time. By completing your Disaster Response profile, you can provide critical information such as special skills, blood type, willingness to travel, training, and other data. All of this helps disaster management teams recruit, place, and track volunteers during a time of emergency.
Signing up does not commit you to respond, but it does ensure that you will receive notification from VolunteerSiouxland should disaster response volunteers be needed in the region. It also makes it much easier for disaster response officials to line up needs with volunteer skills and talents. You're a master with a chainsaw, then you may get notified if they need help clearing downed trees after a tornado. Great with animals? You might be perfect to help relocate animals impacted by flooding.
If you are already a member of VolunteerSiouxland, you can simply sign in and click on "edit profile" and then scroll down towards the bottom of the page on the right where you will find "Disaster Response Profile." Complete this information, being sure to click on "Edit Skills & Services" and selecting all that apply. When done, be sure to click on the "Update Disaster Information" button to be sure your information has been saved. That's it!
If you have not already joined VolunteerSiouxland, simply "click here" and complete your volunteer profile, including the Disaster Response Profile as described above.
