BOOKKEEPING/ACCOUNTANT
The volunteer bookkeeper/accountant primarily serves as an advisor and auditor (not data entry) of the regular accounting of VolunteerSiouxland, including reviewing and advising on QuickBooks setup, financial record keeping and transactions, including accounts payable, receivable and general ledger. The ideal volunteer with have advanced experience with QuickBooks and some experience working with nonprofits.
COMMITMENT:
Approximately 4-6 hours per month on average. Days/times extremely flexible and much can probably be done remotely.
DESIRED SKILL SETS:
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks
- Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Excel
- Strong mathematical skills
- Attention to detail and confidentiality
- CPA, Accountant, or Bookkeeper with nonprofit experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review QuickBooks setup to ensure effective and accurate financial accounting.
- Regularly review QuickBooks entries to ensure that all expenditures and revenues are appropriately categorized and make or suggest necessary changes/corrections.
- Assist in providing or training how to produce needed financial reports from QuickBooks.
- Assist in processing/reviewing state and federal payroll tax deposits and related reports.
- Assists in preparing/reviewing 1099s, W-2s and 941s as needed.
- Provides recommendations for the development and implementation of systems and procedures as needed.
- Works using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
