The Stella Sanford Childcare and Preschool Center is in need of some tender loving care from volunteers to help with some basic grounds keeping, do a little painting, and a few other sprucing up projects.  Days and times can be somewhat flexible and volunteers can sign up as individuals or as a small group.

Come be part of the Patient Experience with this new service.  The Extra Touch Plus Care cart is filled with amenities for patients, families and staff.  The cart travels through out the hospital 3 times a day manned by a volunteer who offers these comforts to anyone interested.  We serve hot coffee, water, have toiletries available and puzzle books/activities.

The STUFF thriftique store located at Boys and Girls Home's "soon to be new home", 1551 Indian Hills Drive, is in need of sorters, stagers, treasure hunters and more. Volunteers will be assisting store staff with the processing of donated items as well as the staging of those items in the store.

Currently help in June and July is most needed as we prepare for special sales and activities. Mondays are preferred and shifts of 10:00am to noon and/or 1:00-3:00 work best.  But this is an ongoing need and hours and days can be flexible.

The Marilyn Engle Teaching Garden is planted every year and produced is harvested and donated to the Soup Kitchen and other organizations. The Extension office could use help weeding the garden throughout the summer for maintenance.

Individuals or small groups are welcome and appreciated and can be a one-time or multiple times throughout the summer.

The Warming Shelter is immediate need for volunteers to help sort and organize the tremendous number of generous donations that have come into the shelter over the past couple of months.  A perfect project for a small group and anyone that just can't wait to do a little organizing.

These wonderful donations are just waiting to go out to meet needs, but your help is required first.  Contact The Warming Shelter manager at (712) 255-0084 to learn more or respond here and someone will follow up with you as soon as possible.

PURPOSE: To enforce parking violations of the Fire Lanes, as set forth in Chapter 10.30 entitled “Miscellaneous City Rules of the Road” of the Sioux City Municipal Code

DESCRIPTION: Volunteers will enforce Fire Lane violations in the Sioux City area only. In representing the SCPD, the volunteer will display good human relations, communication, and common courtesy.  Volunteers will only issue tickets for unoccupied vehicles in the Fire Lanes.  Confrontation is to be avoided at all costs, as education is the focus of the program.  Volunteers are trained to record the license number of each vehicle they contact before exiting their vehicle.  Tickets can only be issued if there is a sign designating it as a Fire Lane.  At least four photographs will be taken of each vehicle with the Fire Lane sign visible that states at a minimum “Fire Lane    No Parking”.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 21 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen and pass a criminal background check.  Must serve without pay or reimbursement for expenses.  Must use the City vehicle.  Must successfully complete the SCPD training required.  Must wear VIPS identification tag when on duty. Must not act on behalf of the SCPD when not officially on duty.

TRAINING: Each volunteer will be trained in the technical area of writing a ticket, how to operate the camera, and how to appear in court for testimony when subpoenaed to do so.  Each volunteer will be instructed to avoid confrontation, and to not approach any vehicle that is occupied, as safety of the volunteer is a primary concern. Each volunteer will be instructed to park so that the City vehicle does not block another vehicle. 

TIME COMMITMENT: At least a one or two-hour block of time per week, when possible.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Coordinator of V IPS and Captain of Support Services

PURPOSE: To provide a friendly, visible presence on the bike trails and sky walks of Sioux City, while serving as the eyes and ears of the Sioux City Police Department. The Trailblazers will ride bikes, walk, run, etc. along the trails to promote safety and carry their cell phone to summon emergency assistance if necessary. 

DESCRIPTION: Trailblazers will maintain high visibility and a positive, informative profile and demeanor; provide courteous public service; and serve only as the eyes and ears of the SCPD. They are never to act in an enforcement capacity, but will call for a sworn officer if the situation warrants such a call.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must pass a criminal background check, project a positive, courteous image while representing the SCPD, be in relatively good physical condition, observant of surroundings for suspicious activity and graffiti, and be approachable if trail users need help. Must serve without pay or reimbursement for expenses. 

TRAINING: VIPS Orientation, bike safety and trail information

TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum of 3 – 4 times per month, when weather permits, and between dawn and dusk.

 RESPONSIBLE TO: Coordinator of VIPS and Captain of Support Services

This is a truly fun and unique volunteer opportunity.  Mary Elizabeth Child Care Center is in need of volunteers to research, design and then paint creative, fun sidewalk/pavement games for preschool and school-aged kids.

This can be done by an individual, but is perfect for a small group of two or three.  Contact Mary Elizabeth for more information or sign up now and they will get back with you.

Mary Elizabeth Child Care Center has been fortunate to receive many donations of books for our kids, but we need your help to sort, organize, and label them so the kids can easily find a book they would love to read.

Date and time to volunteer is flexible, although it would need to be done during operating hours.

LAMB Theatre is looking for a few volunteers to help with cleanup and a little TLC for the grounds around the Theatre.  This could be an individual project, or perfect for a small group and can be done largely at the volunteer(s)' convenience.

Volunteers are need for overseeing Mansion rentals, assisting at special events and helping to maintain the historic home.  Volunteers are also invited to attend short, monthly meetings.

Camp High Hopes has several hours of mowing to tackle each week. If volunteers help us with lawncare, our staff is then able to put more focus on the needs of our campers and guests. The hope is to have a well groomed lawn that all our guests can enjoy. The challenge sometimes can be mowing when campers/guests are not in sight. The Camp has a zero-turn John Deere mower and a gas powered weed whip. For the safety of our equipment, volunteers should have experience operating this type of equipment. 

Volunteers helping on a more regular basis are subject to a background check for the safety of our campers.
