What We Do

The Warming Shelter in Sioux City, Iowa, provides low-barrier, year-round emergency shelter and essential services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to save lives, restore hope, and empower people to rise above homelessness. We offer both day and overnight shelter, with 116 beds and additional overflow capacity, ensuring no one is turned away during extreme weather. Clients have access to meals, hygiene supplies, showers, clothing, and secure storage. We also provide case management through a Resource & Advocacy Liaison who assists with housing applications, ID recovery, healthcare access, and other vital services. Our trauma-informed care model includes a Safety Panel that replaces punitive bans with restorative conversations and personalized safety plans. We serve a diverse population, including families with children, veterans, and individuals with mental health or substance use challenges. Since 2013, we’ve provided over 192,000 nights of shelter and helped Sioux City maintain zero winter weather-related deaths due to exposure.
